Spain coach Luis Enrique praised Barcelona signing Eric Garcia and former Manchester City teammate Aymeric Laporte for their 5-0 thrashing of Euro opponents Slovakia.

In the past two group stage games, Laporte has been matched up with Villarreal's Pau Torres, yet this time manager Enrique opted for something different and explained why after the win.

He said: "I thought he [Garcia] was the player that he usually is. His age really doesn't do justice to his personality on the field of play.

"He's very good at filtering players out, marking his opponent, I think he's very smart defensively. He knows when to step up, he knows when to cover. He's very well coordinated with his full-back, with the other centre-back."

The statistics, City showed Garcia enjoyed a 96 per cent pass success rate, made one important clearance and recovered the ball five times.

"He has an incredible future ahead of him. That's why he was a City player, that's why he's a Barcelona player now and that's why he's a Spain player, because he gives a great feel of assurances he is going to produce performances of that level."
