Chris Smalling is reluctant to leave Roma this summer.
New Roma coach Jose Mourinho was once a critic of the defender when in charge of Manchester United.
But the Mirror says with Mourinho set to take the reins next year at the Serie A outfit, Smalling has decided to stay where he is rather than depart.
Corriere dello Sport reports Roma were open to a sale but only if a number of requirements were met.
They would need to recoup much of the £18m they spent on the 31-year-old last year.
And a replacement would need to be sorted out before a departure could be sanctioned.
Everton have ramped up their interest this summer with the club looking for more experience at the back following the success of Ben Godfrey, who has played across the entire backline.
