FC United will compete in Europe next season.

FC United will play in the first-ever FENIX Trophy, a new competition that will launch in September.

The competition has been created by Milan-based club Brera Calcio and will see eight non-professional teams from seven different countries enter, all chosen for their social, historical and cultural distinctiveness.

FC United, founded in 2005 by Manchester United fans who felt they could no longer support the club after the Glazer takeover, are the sole entrants from England.

They will compete alongside Brera Calcio and AS Lodigiani 1972 from Italy, Afc DWS in Holland, HFC Falke e.V. in Germany, Poland's AKS Zly, the Czech club Prague Raptors and Spain's Cuenca-Mestallistes 1925.

A statement from the organisers describing the competition said: "The eight clubs are famous for a varied number of reasons: clubs rebuilt and run by the fans, clubs featuring significant social and cultural projects, clubs with extraordinary communication skills, etc. In short, a real European network among “cult" non-professional clubs.

"The competition's meaning goes beyond the simple football aspect. The FENIX Trophy is an experience of sporting exchange, meant to highlight best practices within non-professional football: sporting conduct, bonds with the local community, sustainability, use of technologies, and friendship among clubs."
