Arsenal have learnt the 'absolute minimum figure' they will have to pay to sign Martin Odegaard.

The Norway playmaker impressed at Arsenal after joining on loan from Real Madrid in January.

Mikel Arteta wants to keep the 22-year-old but will have to convince his bosses to part with a large transfer fee to do so.

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real are prepared to sell but want at least £51.5m.

The news could come as a blow to Arteta's plans after his team failed to qualify for Europe next season.

The loss in revenue will undoubtedly impact the amount of money available to Arteta for the upcoming summer window.

Alternative midfield options include Norwich star Emi Buendia and Lyon whizkid Houssem Aouar.

However, both players are also likely to cost in the tens of millions of pounds.
