Manchester City are being forced to wait in their bid for Sporting CP wing-back Nuno Mendes.

The Mirror says City's bid to land S Mendes has been put on hold until after the Euros.

The teenager has been told he must not focus on any big-money transfers by Portugal boss Fernando Santos.

Pep Guardiola has identified Mendes to solve his left-back problem, but his £60.1m buy-out clause in his contract has not yet been triggered.

And City are now running the risk of Real Madrid deepening their interest should he perform for Portugal over the next month.
