Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has scoffed at claims Manchester City want to get rid of Raheem Sterling.

Carragher is baffled at talk of Raheem Sterling being used as a makeweight in City's deal to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane, describing the winger as one of the "two best English footballers of this generation".

Carragher, a former team-mate of Sterling's at Liverpool, insists the England winger would not be open to a Tottenham move as he should be joining a Champions League club this summer.

The former Liverpool defender told The Telegraph: "I can't believe I have read some reports suggesting he could be a makeweight in a deal to take Kane to City.

"With respect, do people think Sterling is at a point in his career where he would join Spurs? Are they serious? If he was available, top Champions League clubs would be queuing up for him."
