TNT Sports says Villa are set to make a bid for the Argentina international before the end of this week.
The 23-year-old forward is the latest attacking target for Villa, who have already signed Emi Buendia from Norwich City.
He is likely to form a foursome in attack that also includes Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins.
