GEORGE TOWN – Is Penang finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel? The answer is yes, as far as state Chief Minister Minister Chow Kon Yeow is concerned.

This is because he is confident that the island will achieve herd immunity by year-end, beginning with every person who has registered with MySejahtera receiving their first dose of vaccine by September.

“Which means everyone will be fully dosed by October,” said Chow in a statement.

“We are confident that every person who has registered would be injected by September and complete their second dose by October.”

Chow also revealed that he tested negative to a Covid-19 screening test after he was ordered to self-quarantine last Sunday. This was after his escort officer was tested positive for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile Penang continues to record a worrying number of fresh cases today at 760 bringing the cumulative number of cases to 42,857.

According to the state health department's Facebook posting, out of the 760 cases, 37.1% are in Category 1 (asymptomatic), 61% Category 2 (mild), 1.4% in Category 3 (lung infection), 0.2% Category 4 (lung infection which require oxygen supply) and 0.1% Category 5 (require ventilation). – The Vibes, July 28, 2021
