Manchester United chiefs are encouraged in talks with agents for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
The Sunday World says United officials have held 'productive' talks with Varane's representatives, with a decision on the defender's future now imminent.
Sources close to the deal report United chiefs were initially sceptical over the prospect of signing Varane this summer, amid a belief that he would agree to a new contract with Real Madrid.
Yet there is now a growing belief that he is ready to make the move, with Paris Saint-Germain also in the mix to sign the 27-year-old centre-back.
While PSG may offer Varane a bigger financial package, there is a feeling that he favours a move to United.
With Real Madrid seemingly losing faith in their hopes of hanging on to the defender, they are expected to accept an offer in the region of £50million for a player who has just one year left on his contract.
