SHAH ALAM – The Customs Department has seized RM2.7 million worth of vape liquids with duties amounting to RM273,480.

Central Zone principal assistant director Datuk Zazuli Johan in a statement today said personnel checked two containers from the United States at Port Klang’s Northport about 6pm on June 24.

The team found 1,276.24l of the liquids, suspected to contain nicotine, when the cargo was declared as atomiser devices, he said.

“The cargo was also found to be past its expiry date. We believe the product would be repackaged before distribution in the local market.

“The consignment was brought in without a valid import licence, and the tax on it was not paid.”

Vape liquids are classified as prohibited merchandise under the Customs (Prohibition on Imports) Order 2017, he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967. – Bernama, July 2, 2021
