WASHINGTON – New York City will pay US$100 (RM422) to anyone who gets the Covid-19 vaccine there, announced Mayor Bill de Blasio yesterday.
The mayor had at a news conference announced that the new incentive will take effect tomorrow, according to Anadolu Agency.
To receive the money, New Yorkers will have to go to city-run vaccination sites. The funds are only for individuals receiving their first dose.
“We will say ‘thank you’. We will say ‘we are really glad that you got vaccinated for yourself, your family, your community, and here is US$100 to thank you for doing the right thing’,” said de Blasio.
“Not only do you get the US$100, you also qualify to be able to do everything else that is wonderful in this city, including the amazing concerts coming up.”
The effort to boost the vaccination rate in the city comes as jurisdictions across the United States seek to enhance efforts to curb the spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant.
From September, New York City will mandate that all municipal employees, including police officers, teachers and firefighters, either get vaccinated or be subject to weekly virus testing. – Bernama, July 29, 2021
