WE are all going through the toughest times in our life currently due to the coronavirus pandemic which has robbed us of our happiness and peace of mind.
White and red flags are being flown now in desperation to save lives and the issues surfacing from the health crisis has left every home in jitters.
Instead of going out and enjoying the evening or watching the sunset, everyone now waits nervously for the daily Covid-19 statistics update and worry.
The enhanced lockdown has further heightened the anxiety as we stay cooped up indoors and suffer from cabin fever.
On July 3rd, I was a guest at a webinar to share ancient wisdoms on “How to staying positive and happy in tough times” organised and hosted by Christina Teng from the leading Body Mind Soul magazine.

I would like to devote this column on some tips on how to remain sturdy and emerge smelling like a rose from the present situation.
Firstly, every individual should understand that our life is not meant to be a suffering and we should not become a victim to the existing anguish but emerge resilient with better understanding about life.
We are not given a good life or bad life but we are given a life and it’s up to us to make it good or bad.
I would like to compare our life to the weather. Most of the time there is sunshine but sometimes there are times dark clouds loom and upset our thoughts, actions, happiness and wellbeing.
It is this brief setback that makes lasting imprints in our mind and disturbs our birth right to be happy.
But we need to remember that nothing is permanent is life, so is happiness and sadness but if we can tap into our inner power, we can live our life to the fullest.
One way to view the challenges is not to close the book when bad things happen in our life but instead just turn the page and begin a new chapter.
The birth of every new day gives us to fresh start with a blank page and it all depends on how we want to make it colourful.
To keep you focused on track you should activate your power centre within you and use affirmations which will help motivate and improve your self-confidence.
Commanding words like “I’m in full control, I will survive, I’m strong, I’m confident, I’m peaceful and I can make or do it” can help get you get through any tough situation.
The recommended way to do it is to write the slogans in bold letters in red ink and place them on the walls in your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen or in your favourite space at work or home. The catchphrases will flash as a constant reminder to boost your positivity.
Remember to write not more than three slogans or it will dilute your attention.
Reading affirmations daily can transforms your self-image and give you confidence to dismiss the past or present problems and move forward courageously.
Visualise that you are achieving your affirmations and the best time to practise affirmations is before you go to sleep for it to manifest and shortly after you wake up.
Repeating the words help programme your conscious and sub-conscious mind.
You should further use your strength to overpower your problems because no problem is greater than your strength.
Another conscious living activity you should consider is to protect yourself from being influenced by negative messages and rumours which can affect your thoughts and make you miserable.
Sometimes unknowingly the overwhelming news on hundreds of people dying and hospitalised will shift your thoughts to give attention to the unfavourable news thus affecting your emotions and peace of mind.
You cannot control what is going on outside you but you can definitely take charge of things that are within you.
One way is not to entertain worry and focus on what you are thinking about and ensure it is positive.
Control your thoughts and if you get negative thoughts coming, pause and change the hostility to acceptance.
You are urged to prepare a checklist on the things you want to change in your life.
Write down the negative attitudes you have on a piece of paper using black ink.
Take it outside your house and burn the paper and you will be free from such issues again and start your life fresh.
Also, prevent your mind from being influenced by other people’s negative thoughts.
To do this, stay away from destructive people and those to talk trash and spread unverified news.
Finally, stay optimistic and never stop believing in hope because miracles happen every day.
