AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is confident they will be active in the summer market.
Milan have already signed Mike Maignan from Lille to replace new PSG goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma.
Pioli said today: "We started a little earlier, but we want to do things calmly and in the best possible way. We have come from a heavy season, but we have rested and I'm sure I'll find them ready. The start of the new one will come soon, we want to be protagonists again.
"The club and all of us want Milan to be competitive, we need to give continuity to our work, we want to improve the quality of our players and raise the level of the team. We start today on July 8, I would prefer to have the whole squad today but I know that the market is long.
"I hope above all a return to the stadium and to normality. For us I hope it will be a season of confirmation, to be a competitive team in Italy and in Europe, to confirm our level. Nobody expected Milan to arrive in second place. We will try to be a surprise again next year."
On Franck Kessie, Pioli added: "Franck has grown a lot, we talk about him but the others have also grown. He can still do a lot, both I and the club know how important Franck is, I have already heard from him. First he rested, then married, now he will go with the national team.
"Gigio (Donnarumma) and (Hakan) Calhanoglu have given a lot to the team, but I will find a motivated group. We need quality players."
