Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has passed a medical at Brentford.
The Evening Chronicle says a £13.5million move from Celtic is set to be confirmed.
Despite having a limited transfer budget this summer, Newcastle have watched Ajer, who can play in central defence or as a right-sided defender, and had been impressed with the Norway international.
The 23-year-old, who helped the Bhoys win a treble-treble of domestic trophies during his time in Glasgow, had also reportedly drawn interest from Norwich City and Bayer Leverkusen.
But it is newly promoted Brentford who look set to land his signature this week with Sky Sports reporting the deal has largely been agreed with only the final details to be concluded.
