[UPDATED] 17,170 new Covid-19 cases, 9,301 in Klang Valley, above 1,000 each in Kedah, Johor

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 17,170 coronavirus cases, a slight decrease from yesterday’s 17,405, taking the national total to 1,078,646.

Of the fresh infections, Selangor leads with a staggering 7,163, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,138), Kedah (1,212) and Johor (1,054).

Negri Sembilan logged 884 cases, Sabah (776), Pahang (638), Kelantan (615), Perak (596), Sarawak (582), Penang (554), Terengganu (437) and Melaka (416).

Putrajaya saw 84 cases, Labuan (11) and Perlis (10).

Out of Sarawak’s 582 new cases, Kuching has 311 cases, followed by Simunjan (73), Serian (51), Bau (50), Sibu (26), Bintulu (13), Samarahan (12), and Miri (11), among others 

Kuching also saw four more clusters emerging: Kg Mebi (21 cases), Telaga Air (34), Kg Senari (25), and Kg Quop (12) 

The Sg Mangga cluster in Simunjan district saw 55 workers down with Covid-19 in an oil palm plantation.

The number of fatalities today is 174, bring the cumulative death toll to 8,725 cases.

Meanwhile, recoveries totalled 12,930 today, for a cumulative figure of 890,742

For cases being given intensive care unit (ICU) treatment, the total is 1,043 today, with 531 patients requiring breathing equipment. – The Vibes, July 29, 2021
