Covid-19 hotspot fears grip Kuching after logging over half of Sarawak’s new cases

MIRI – Sarawak’s capital Kuching is turning into Covid-19 hotspot again, with 238 new infections today.

The state Disaster Management Committee said the district has the most daily infections of the 423 reported in Sarawak today.

This is followed by Meradong with 26 cases, Sibu (23), Bintulu (11) and other districts with fewer than 10 cases.

There are two new clusters involving a total of three longhouses.

The Bukit Tinggi cluster in Meradong saw 21 people in a longhouse infected while Lempaong cluster in Betong saw 31 folk in two longhouses infected after social gatherings.

Eight longhouses in the state have been placed under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for the next two weeks.

They are Rumah Panjang Dayang in Bintulu district, Rumah Panjang Embau and Rumah Panjang Radin in Tatau, Rumah Panjang Sap and Rumah Panjang Ningkan in Sarikei, Rumah Panjang Rayong, Rumah Panjang Anthony and Rumah Panjang Maja in Bintangor.

Three villages in Kuching are under the EMCO, namely Kg Astana Lot, Kg Sg Bedil and Kg Sentau. – The Vibes, July 16, 2021
