School bus driver claims trial to sexually assaulting 10-year-old

IPOH – A school bus driver was charged at the sessions court here today with committing physical sexual assault against a 10-year-old girl two years ago.

K. Ravichandran, 53, pleaded not guilty before judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini.

He was charged with committing the offence while transporting the girl home from school on his motorcycle between 1pm and 1.25pm on August 6, 2019.

The charge, framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Ravichandran was allowed bail at RM4,000 with one surety.

September 24 was fixed for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Waffy Ismail prosecuted, while lawyer Datin Shamini Karunananthan represented the accused. – Bernama, July 30, 2021
