KUANTAN – The public has been reminded not to undertake inter-district and interstate travel in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration next week.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the increase in Covid-19 cases and clusters linked to the Aidilfitri celebration in May should serve as a lesson to all.

“Inter-district and interstate travel is not allowed under Phases 1 and 2 of the National Recovery Plan. Currently, most states are in Phase 2,” he told reporters at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall vaccination centre here today.

“I hope people will learn from what happened during Aidilfitri… even though interstate movement was not allowed, there were still those who violated the rule, causing cases to escalate.”

Ismail Sabri, who is also defence minister, warned people not to use rat lanes in an attempt to return to their hometowns for Aidiladha.

“We might escape police, but not Covid-19 infection. So, take care of ourselves, exercise self-restraint, and do not cross state and district lines.” – Bernama, July 16, 2021
