SANDAKAN: Police have denied claims in a viral video that a group of mosque committee members here had been arrested during the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration here on Tuesday.
When contacted, Sandakan District Police Chief ACP Mohd Azhar said claims on the incident as recorded in the video did not take place in Sandakan but in a state in the peninsula.
A 10-second video showing a compound that was issued against the chairman of a mosque at Batu 16 for not complying with the Aidiladha prayer standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the National Security Council was shared by many on social media.
Azhar, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Sandakan District Disaster Operations Control Centre, said the video that was linked to the detention of those who prayed and were taken aboard the truck was not true because the incident occurred in the peninsula.
