Former Rochdale manager Brian Barry-Murphy has been named new coach of Manchester City U23s.

Barry-Murpny replaces Enzo Maresca after he left for Serie BParma this summer.

Barry-Murphy, 42, arrives at the Etihad after two seasons in charge at nearby Rochdale. He won plaudits for the style of play he integrated at Spotland and earned City's attention, with goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu and defender Yeboah Amankwah loaned out to continue their development.

The Manchester Evening News says the U18s have a new coach after Carlos Vicens stepped up to Pep Guardiola's first-team staff to assist with the adapting process for young players and also to work on set-pieces. Ben Wilkinson, having previously worked with the Under-23s before becoming lead coach of the U16s last season, steps up to fill the shoes of Vicens.
