Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was surprised by Harry Kane going AWOL from training this week.
Manchester City have been mostly linked but a mooted price tag of £160million has put the transfer in doubt.
Redknapp admitted the England's captain behaviour was "not the best," revealing his thoughts on the situation to talkSPORT.
"Unless he has something in writing, unless he has an actual figure, Daniel is probably saying, 'yes, I will sell you.
"I will stand you by my word if I said I will sell you. But I am not going to sell you cheap.'
"It did [surprise] me, yes, you know him as well as I do. You wouldn't have expected that.
"I would have thought that he would have just turned up and had a meeting with Daniel again. I am sure his advisors are meeting with Daniel.
"I was a bit surprised. I am sure he will come into training today," he incorrectly predicted.
"Not the best way to go about it. He is loved at Tottenham."
