Norwich City defender Ben Gibson played down defeat to Newcastle United.

Gibson played the full 90 minutes as Newcastle ran out 3-0 preseason friendly winners after a strong second-half showing.

Speaking afterwards, Gibson said: “It was a good test and a good run out but a disappointing result and disappointing second-half.

“We're missing a lot of players and came up against a good side.

“For the first-half, we played well. Our structure was good, without really doing much damage at the other end. That's what you've got to do in the Premier League, you have to be clinical.

“It was a big learning curve. We had a lot of young lads out there today. That's the level we've got to get to. It's a harsh reality when you're not on it and not quite right."

Gibson admitted the game was a lesson for players in the squad who aren't accustomed to playing Premier League football.

“That's what we're going to come up against. If you're 1% off it, that's going to be the outcome. We won't get too down about it. It's been the first top test we've had. We'll take the positives, minutes in the bank and players coming back."
