Rodrigo Vilca's career at Newcastle United is now underway.
Chronicle Live reports Vilca made his first appearance of pre-season with a half hour run out at Gateshead on Saturday afternoon.
The South American, who arrived from Peruvian side Deportivo Muncipal on deadline day last year, showed some handy touches and made a couple good dribbles forward but it came as Newcastle's Under-23 side trailed 4-1 at the International Stadium.
At 22, Vilca, who has played senior football in his home country, is hardly a kid, but the question now is what are the Magpies going to do with him?
Vilca was essentially signed after being recommended to chief scout Steve Nickson and arrived for a nominal fee of around £225,000 last autumn.
After 27 appearances at Deportivo, where he scored four goals, Vilca has ended up on Tyneside.
