Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez admits Everton deserved their win.

Saturday's 2-0 Amex defeat ended their 100% start to the season with the goalkeeper beaten by goals from Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin's penalty.

“We're disappointed by the defeat - we know if we want to play against a team at this level we have to be at our best and if I'm honest I don't think we were," he said.

“It's always hard when the opposition score a goal, but the important part is you go again, and the boys are good at that. We tried to do that against Everton, but we didn't do well enough."

Sanchez heads off to play World Cup qualifiers for Spain next week and is confident Albion will be back at it on 11 September when they resume their league campaign at Brentford.

“I am really happy we have got six points from the nine available. The boys get the chance to relax now as we go into the international break and come back stronger than ever."
