Former Deportivo La Coruna president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro says Lionel Messi's departure from Barcelona is a huge blow for LaLiga.
Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG yesterday after being released by Barca over the weekend.
In an op-ed, Lendoiro wrote: "The sad reality led us to experience, in a way that was as absurd as it was unexpected, one of the most painful episodes in the history of Spanish football. It was too hard to see the best player in the world go, after the departure of Cristiano and Neymar in recent years. The three great world figures had left in five years, which forces us to reflect on the real value of LaLiga and on the dependence on great stars Madrid, Barca, Atléti ...
"I am convinced that this damage, perhaps irreparable, cannot be attributed to a single person, because, although (Javier) Tebas, (Joan) Laporta and Messi do not want to assume the responsibility that corresponds to them in this nonsense, it is evident that all of them have influenced this unfortunate ending. It is possible that the three thought that reason was helping them, but between all of them they killed it and it just died.
"Messi's departure is a ruinous business. Nobody wins. Everyone loses. Treasury mourns the departure of its best client. LaLiga says goodbye to its player-flag and its clubs say goodbye to a day of great party with a guaranteed box office ... but those of us who lose the most, and without any fault, are in love with the genius..."
