Serve the people, not fish for votes in polls, S’gor ruler tells state MPs

KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah reminded state MPs to serve the people and not just fish for votes during election season during his royal address in the state assembly today.

“Lawmakers must get data from those who lost their parents and livelihoods, so the state government is able to decide what aid to provide.

“I want to remind you all that the rakyat need your help. Help them and find them, not just to get their votes during the election.

“Remember the mandate given to you.”

Sultan Sharafuddin also brought up news that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been arresting civil servants in the state.

“I have received reports on MACC investigations into political leaders suspected of corrupt practices and abuse of power.

“I am disappointed that there is a dishonest practice among the civil service and political leaders despite their responsibilities.

“I do not want to hear about any report on the involvement of any of the 21 government officers and political leaders in my state.

“I have already ordered MACC to conduct a thorough probe to purge the state of corrupt practices.”

He said he hopes that the offenders will be brought to court and if found guilty, punished to the full extent of the law.

“Corruption has no place in society and we need to fight it all the way.

“Honourable members, if state political leaders and government officials continue to focus on power and position, making corruption a way of life – I am afraid I will not live to see a developed Selangor.”

He also reminded those who have completed their Covid-19 vaccination not to be complacent, saying they are not “invincible” against the virus.

“Always wear a mask when leaving the house and comply with physical distancing at all times.”

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday said the main agenda of the assembly will be plans to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The assembly is scheduled to sit for nine days from today.

Amirudin, in a video on Twitter yesterday, said Covid-19 will be among the topics to be debated apart from the royal address of the state ruler.

He said the plans will address the challenges brought by the coronavirus, and safeguard Selangor’s economic resilience and capability as the country’s pillar of strength in its development and progress.

He also called on all state assemblymen to conduct the debates in an orderly manner and contribute to providing suggestions to the state and federal governments in the face of the pandemic. – The Vibes, August 23, 2021
