Liverpool loanee Leighton Clarkson has spoken about his desire to join Blackburn Rovers after the completion of a loan move to the Championship club.

The 19-year-old is desperate for regular game time this season.

Clarkson has returned to the club where he was a youth academy member from the ages of four to nine.

A boyhood supporter of the club, Clarkson knew Rovers was his ideal choice for a loan move this term.

"It feels unbelievable," he told the club's website. "This was the only club where I really wanted to come when I knew I had the chance to go out on loan. I'm just happy that Tony (Mowbray) had the faith in me to bring me in."

He added: "I've supported Rovers all my life. I grew up not far from here, I used to go to the games from when I was two until I was about 16 and I also played here when I was younger, so I've always supported the club and it feels good to be here.

"This is where I started my football, so to come back here and I've got a season where I can try and help the team as much as possible, it's a brilliant feeling.

"It's not sunk in yet, but I'm really happy to be here and really happy to have met the boys and got a good session under my belt.

"It means everything. My whole family are Rovers fans. My mum and my aunties were all there when they won the Premier League. I used to go up until it got to the point where I couldn't go anymore because of football, but I was still, even last season, watching the games and still supporting them from home."
