TAWAU: The Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) has donated special zakat assistance of RM1,000 to 385 household heads in the State affected by fires.

Sabah Special Tasks Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the aid was contributed through the zakat fund, after obtaining detailed information related to the fire victims from the local authority.

“The financial aid is to ease the victims’ burden,” he told reporters after handing over the assistance to fire victims at Batu 15 Jalan Apas, here, Saturday.

According to him, the assistance was also channelled to fire victims at Kampung Tanjung Aru (Kota Kinabalu), Kampung Meruntum (Putatan), Kampung Panji (Semporna) and Kampung Titingan, here.

“The aid fund is the result of zakat collection from individuals, agencies and companies in the State to assist those in need,” he said.

In addition, he said Jheains had been distributing food baskets to the lower-income groups since the implementation of the Movement Control Order in the State.

Earlier, Sabah Assistant Minister of Finance Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, who accompanied Mohd Arifin, also gave his personal contributions to the fire victims left homeless after a fire destroyed their houses on Friday.
