The Japan international has long been a target for North London rivals Tottenham this summer.
However, The Athletic reports Arsenal are now in pole position to land Tomiyasu, who is eager to make a move to England before the deadline falls tonight.
Bologna are prepared to sell - though won't budge from their €20m valuation.
Tomiyasu has a deal with the Serie A outfit to 2024.
