Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says last season's title winning campaign was the toughest of his career.

The Catalan has opened up on last campaign's hectic schedule, revealing that it was actually the toughest experience of his career.

"Last season, the schedule was so tough," Guardiola admitted, speaking in City's official programme.

"In fact, it was the toughest I have ever experienced in all my time in football.

"To watch my players remain focused on winning and work so hard every single day, in training and in matches, despite such a tough calendar, was amazing for me.

"I am so lucky to work with this squad. The challenge now is to continue winning. We must always strive for more. It is impossible to stand still because, in football, there is always someone trying to beat you.

“It's my job to make sure we are always moving forward in terms of the way we play, to stay ahead of our rivals and I sense from my players there's a real desire to be the best. I'm so optimistic about the new season."
