Reading are in talks to sign released Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.

The Daily Mail says the 32-year-old striker is a free agent after leaving Newcastle United so can sign after the window closes if necessary.

Carroll has been looking for a new club since leaving St James' Park where he scored once in 43 appearances during the past two seasons.

Reading signed Danny Drinkwater from Chelsea on loan on Monday and added Scott Dann on a year's contract.

Manager Veljko Paunovic is keen to get a new forward as George Puscas is currently the only fit striker at the club.

The Royals are currently 21st in the Championship with just one win from their opening five league games of the 2021-22 campaign.
