
Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered to be given three stroke of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.
Isnar Abdul Tan pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat to the charge against him, Friday.
He was found to taking the drug at 6pm on May 26, this year after his urine was tested positive at the police station, here.
Isnar has five previous convictions for taking drugs.
The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1) of the same Act provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping at least three strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The court ordered Isnar to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on May 26 this year.
After completing his jail sentence, Isnar was ordered to be placed under police supervision for three years.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nureen Natasha Mohd Raffie appeared for the prosecution while Isnar was not represented.
