PETALING JAYA, Aug 28 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has allocated RM20,000 for the donation of sanitary pads in conjunction with its Period Poverty Care campaign.
Its Corporate Social Responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the inaugural programme was implemented to assist women who cannot buy products to manage their periods due to financial difficulties.
“Sanitary pads are an important necessity which we sometimes overlook when giving out contributions such as food baskets, diapers and baby milk.
“Insya Allah (God willing), this campaign will be continued in the future and if there is a request from any party, we will increase the allocation,” he told SelangorKini.
He said almost 3,000 packs of sanitary pads would be distributed throughout Selangor and today, a total of 250 packs were distributed around Kelana Jaya.
“The selection of recipients is made based on searches by local council members, village heads and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
“Hopefully, this assistance will open up the eyes of NGOs or any corporate body to include sanitary pads as one of the items in giving assistance to B40 individuals,” he said.
