Manchester United scouts had big concerns about Bruno Fernandes before his arrival from Sporting CP, it has been revealed.

The Daily Mail says back in the summer transfer window of 2019, United passed on the chance to sign him.

Scouts harboured concerns over Fernandes' ball retention skills, believing he gives it away too often.

In the 2018/2019 campaign, he managed a lowly 75.1 per cent pass completion ratio.

And United scouts didn't believe he was the ideal fit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team, thinking he'd be a liability in the middle of the park.

However, months later, they changed their mind.

They then intended to sign Erling Haaland but, after being turned down by the Norway international, then opted to snap up Fernandes instead.
