Newcastle United are the latest team to show an interest in Schalke forward Matthew Hoppe.

Per the Shields Gazette, the Magpies have inquired about Hoppe's availability in recent weeks.

The American is available after Schalke's relegation to the second division in Germany at the end of last season.

Hoppe, who is 20, scored six goals in 22 Bundesliga games last term.

Wolves and Brentford are also being linked with the forward, who got his start at the Barcelona residency academy in the USA.
