Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope has rejected criticism from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after last week's defeat at Anfield.

Pope admitted being shocked by the Liverpool manager likening Burnley tactics to 'wrestling' after their game at Anfield last weekend.

"We were surprised by the comments. There weren't any bookings, it wasn't a massively dirty game so it was a bit of a strange one," said the England goalkeeper.

"We're a competitive team but haven't had a red card in more than 90 games. We're fair, maybe a bit different to some teams nowadays but nothing untoward or over the top.

"The league have come out and said they want to see less soft fouls, less soft pens. That's something the fans want and it's good for game worldwide.

"Some of the play acting last year was a bit of a disgrace and emphasised by the fact there was no crowd.

"You could hear the screams and 15 seconds later lads were up running around, and that didn't sit well with many people."
