Everton boss Rafa Benitez admits Financial Fair Play laws have held back their market plans.

Asmir Begovic, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have strengthened Everton this summer. But the first two joined as free agents, while the third alone cost £1.7m.

Benitez explained, "The reality is that we know that the rules for Financial Fair Play exist and we must follow them.

"I know how the situation is and we will try to do our best with the players we have.

"If we can strengthen our squad, we will try to do so. Under these circumstances, we have to get rid of players - it's easy to understand."
