KUALA LUMPUR, 6 August – Individuals attending their vaccination appointments in the last few weeks may have caught a glimpse of some familiar faces volunteering their time at a designated Vaccine Administration Centre (PPV).
Over the last three weeks, several PPVs throughout Peninsular Malaysia including Galaxy Mall Ampang, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the Mines Convention Centre, the Klang Hokkien Association, SPICE Convention Centre (Penang) and Taman Universiti Nusajaya (Johor) received volunteer reinforcements in the form of more than 200 staff from Evolution Wellness Group’s Malaysian operations.
Evolution Wellness Group is Asia’s leading fitness and wellness company that operates a network of 47 gyms throughout Malaysia under the Celebrity Fitness, CHi Fitness, FIRE Fitness, Fitness First, and GoFit brands. The volunteers - ranging from Front of House (Reception) teams, to service consultants, personal trainers, club management team members, and back
office personnel - responded to the call for volunteers under the Malaysian Vaccine Support Volunteer (MyVac) programme in support of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Senior Managing Director, Andrew Phillips, said, “When we first saw the call for volunteers, we immediately contacted the Ministry of Youth and Sports to see how we might be able to lend our support towards helping Malaysia achieve herd immunity. We believe this is a meaningful way to keep our staff engaged despite a challenging time for the gym and fitness industry.
"I am heartened to see so many team members enthusiastically putting up their hand to volunteer, fully demonstrating our core values of ‘We Care’ and ‘Give Something Back.’
“We firmly believe that fitness is part of the long-term solution for Malaysia not only in its war against Covid-19 but also in its national health agenda. So, until we are allowed to resume operations, the team is proud to do our part as volunteers and Win Together with Malaysia and the rakyat,” said Phillips.
“As part of the employee induction and learning and development journey, our employees are trained in a number of soft skills including communication and interpersonal skills, which I am sure will come in useful during their time volunteering at the PPVs as they have in our gyms,” he concluded. - The Vibes.
