Former Everton captain Leon Osman believes the players underperformed for defeat to Aston Villa.
Osman believes Everton couldn't cope with Aston Villa's formation at Villa Park on Saturday evening.
Speaking to Sky after the game, Osman said: “Everton didn't match Aston Villa's tempo in that second half. Aston Villa really went up a gear and Everton found it very difficult to cope with that.
“You can point at the fact Everton are decimated with players [out], couldn't even name a full substitutes' bench, really big players they are missing.
“But those players on the pitch have still got to try and deliver, and unfortunately when Aston Villa stepped the tempo up Everton didn't have an answer.
“Aston Villa wore Everton down with regards to the formation, 3-5-2 with Aston Villa playing wing backs against Everton's full backs.
“The wing backs really troubled Lucas Digne and Ben Godfrey who were trying to play as full backs, trying to get out and as close as they could every time.
"For an hour they managed it but they ran out of steam, they found it difficult to do both jobs."
