Burnley forward Ashley Westwood buried his late grandfather before taking on Liverpool in the Premier League last term.

The midfielder, who was outstanding in that game as his side picked up a 1-0 win, put on a show as a tribute to his granddad.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Westwood admits to his personal turmoil at the time, while suggesting January 21 is a date he is unlikely to forget.

"He wouldn't have been happy with me missing a game because of that," said Westwood.

"He would rather I missed the funeral than the game.

"The pandemic has been a long 18 months.

"You don't know what people are doing behind closed doors and you need to look out for others. I've been affected by it, losing two grandparents."
