Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reserved praise for the club's supporters after a 1-0 loss to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils crashed out of the competition after the third round, failing to get a positive result at home against the Hammers.

Despite having a great deal of possession, United were unable to create enough high quality chances to severely trouble the Hammers.

Asked about the great atmosphere during the game, Solskjaer told the club website: "[It was] fantastic. Absolutely incredible.

"We have some new coaches coming in and they were asking this morning, 'what do you reckon, how many fans - are we going to get 40, 50 [thousand]?'

"No, I knew it would be close to full. No doubt about our fans, they are brilliant.

"They kept going and the atmosphere was brilliant."
