SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — More than RM10 million was channelled by the state government to senior citizens and disabled persons (OKU) through the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) since the beginning of the year.

Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) general manager Gan Pei Nei said the amount included approximately RM9,963,200 for the Jom Shopping initiative and RM734,000 for the death benefit.

“Over 100,000 individuals have since received benefits from these two programmes. A total of 99,632 senior citizens and OKUs received RM100 Jom Shopping vouchers on their birthday month.

“Meanwhile, 1,468 heirs of the elderly and the OKU who passed away received RM500 through the death benefits,” she told SelangorKini yesterday.

The state government has prepared an RM20 million fund for the Jom Shopping SMUE programme.

A total of RM7.5 million is provided to the heirs registered with Yawas to receive the assistance of RM500 per person.

The public can browse the e-mesra.yawas.my portal to apply for assistance from the scheme.
