Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone welcomed back Antoine Griezmann for victory over Espanyol.

Simeone was a happy man after Atletico grabbed a late winner in the ninth minute of injury time to seal a 2-1 away victory over Espanyol.

The Atletico coach was asked about the unusually long amount of time added at the end of the match, which ended up favouring his side massively.

"It was a long time, but I've also never seen so much time wasted in one match," he said after the game.

"We need to look at what happened during the game."

Griezmann made his debut on his return to the club and El Cholo was happy with his performance.

"I thought he did well in the first half of the game which was a tough half for us," the Atletico coach said.

"Espanyol were on top in the first 45 minutes. In the second half we changed things and we looked for alternatives to what we saw in the first half.

"The team were fantastic in the second half."

Seeing that things weren't working in the first period, Simeone changed things at the break.

"In the second half we adapted to the game and went to a 4-3-3 because the 5-4-1 didn't work in the first half," he commented.

"If we'd been more intense with the ball, we'd have grown into the game more."
