Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has explained where his nickname came from.

The veteran, known as the El Matador, is in his second season with United.

Cavani told the club's website: "I was first given the nickname in Italy, around the time I signed for Napoli. That nickname has stuck and remained with me throughout my career. If think, if you say El Matador, the fans remember me.

"I think they gave it to me because, when I first went to Napoli, things started to go well for me.

"I began scoring regularly, we were winning games and we won lots of things, I mean the team had a long run of winning games. Because I was getting on the score-sheet all the time, they nicknamed me El Matador.

"Of course, Matador is the guy who brings the bullfight to the end, so you couldn't really argue what the fans had come up with for me. From way back, right up until today, the name has stuck with me."
