Everton were not able to offload veteran James Rodriguez this summer because of his high wages.
The Colombian is not wanted by Toffees boss Rafa Benitez, but the club were unable to move him on in the transfer window.
The 30-year-old has a contract of £250,000-a-week salary, according to Football Insider, and such a salary led to clubs distancing themselves from any interest in the player.
James still has one year of his two-year contract remaining, and made 21 Premier League appearances last term.
He has not appeared for the club so far this season, since Benitez took over from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.
