Harvey Elliott has released a message via Liverpool after suffering a dislocated ankle in victory at Leeds United.

Elliott came off second best after a tackle from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk and was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

He wrote this morning: "I am of course totally crushed over what happened against Leeds, but I have been totally overwhelmed by the love and support that has been shown to me from all over the football world after the injury.

"Really many thanks to everyone who has reached out to me or sent messages to me and my family. It means so much to us. A big thank you to everyone at Elland Road for the reception you gave me right after the incident.

"Now I am fully focused on my rehabilitation and will give everything to come back as soon as possible. I know I have an incredibly strong network behind me in Liverpool, and together we will get through this."
