Malaga sporting director Manolo Gaspar admits they were beaten by Everton to the signing of Jose Salomon.

The 32-year-old joined the Blues on transfer deadline day, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract at Goodison Park after two years in the Chinese Super League with Dalian Pro.

“I did everything possible to bring in Rondon, but it was impossible. He is in the Champions League (a likely refence to his salary level), and we are reborn," the Malaga chief told 101tv's 'Area Malaguista'.

Gaspar added: “We made a consultation, and economically it was possible. I understand that a player's career is short, and you're a Malaguista until they touch your pocket."

Rondon has featured four times for the Toffees since his recent arrival, playing against Burnley, Aston Villa, QPR and Norwich City.
