Former West Ham defender Glen Johnson fears Declan Rice may outgrow the club.
Last season, Rice helped West Ham to European qualification with the club's Europa League campaign starting next week.
But amid heavyweight interest, Johnson believes Rice could soon depart the London Stadium searching for Premier League titles and Champions League nights.
"I would, of course, love him to stay," Johnson told Bettingodds.com.
"But if he wants to win trophies and fight for titles and go deep in the Champions League, clearly as we all know, he's not going to do it at West Ham.
"It's all about timing and how ambitious he wants to be. I think he is ambitious, so I'm sure he won't want to flirt around the middle of the table for the rest of his career.
"I'm sure something will happen soon, but I hope it doesn't!"
