Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he is "ready to take that gamble" to ensure the future of football is a success.
The legendary coach is currently in charge of overhauling the footballing calendar as per his position as head of global development for FIFA.
Wenger has proposed changes to the game that include a World Cup every two years, along with moving international matches to a few larger blocks of the year, rather than having breaks in the club season nearly every month.
In an interview with The Sports Desk, Wenger said: "The risk is to make football better, and I'm ready to take that gamble."
He said there was "no clarity, no simplicity, no modern way to organise a season" in the current schedule.
Wenger added: "I think if we go on like that we hit the wall.
"What is absolutely detrimental to the players is repeated travelling and jet-lag. With reducing the qualifying period, I believe that the clubs will benefit, the players would benefit."
