AS Roma chief Tiago Pinto admits they wanted to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Switzerland captain penned new terms with the Gunners last week, but not before Roma had two offers for him rejected by Arsenal.
Pinto confirmed: "The market is closed and today I have fun, because we bought so many players but everyone asks me about the midfielder.
"Everyone knows we were looking for Xhaka, he wanted to come to Roma, but Arsenal did not let him go.
"That's what I'm sorry about in this transfer market."
